Don’t feel bamboozled, he fooled us all. When his infamous sexacapade first broke four months ago people blamed his non-immediate response on his PR team and publicist. They bashed him, said that he was hiding from the situation, that he wasn’t entitled to so much privacy and the public deserved an explanation. But this was always the plan.
He wanted all the speculations to build up, have everyone form their own opinion and then when everyone grew tired of the guessing game. He decided to speak. That was the first great move by his publicist. When Tiger was ready to speak, network television gave him all the time in the world. I actually missed The View that day, I was a little upset.
At his robotic press conference he said “I don’t know when I will return to golf, but I will golf again.” I was sure it wouldn’t be this year, and it definitely wouldn’t be this year’s Masters. And yet, after one week in sex rehab (the very idea of sex rehab is ridiculous) he returned to the practice course. What happened next was amazing.
The media started talking about golf again! At what tournament will he make his comeback? Arnold Palmer? Masters? He could win his fifth green jacket! On GMA this morning they only thing mentioned about Tiger’s scandal was that he had a scandal. “Four months after his car crash and resulting scandal, Tiger Woods has returned to golf” Lately, you and I both have been seeing pictures of Tiger with a golf club in his hand practicing his swing with his coach. His PR team deserves a standing ovation because they just about cleaned up Tiger’s nasty mess.
On another note, I personally think he should make his comeback at the Master’s for three reasons.
- The Masters is the most prestigious and classy competition in golf meaning people won’t be acting a fool in there. So there will be minimal heckling by fans and strict rules for the media.
- The Master’s already draws huge media attention when Tiger plays, imagine that being doubled. This is a win-win for both sides.
- If he wins it, he returns to dominance and everyone will forget about the past (just like we do with all winners).
I just want all of you to pay attention to what Tiger is doing because trust it is all calculated and scripted. His team, which now includes Bush and McGwire’s former image rebuilder Ari Fleischer, is on the prowl to make Tiger king again.
